Yesterday I never went outside. I did do some squats and lifting while watching my Packers beat the Cowboys. With some great game food of bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers, My Michael and a win, it was a pretty good day.
Today we took our 5K walk in 14 F degree temps. It was another good day. Late again and I’m going to bed.
It was after midnight last night, when I thought about blogging my Janathon Day 9, I went to bed instead. Yesterday I didn’t go out and walk, but did do 5 sets of 25 squats, four of them with a 30 lb. kettlebell. I also did push-ups and some lifting.
Today, Day 10, we got out there in a balmy 14 degrees F and it felt great. We walked our 5K route in the campground in an hour. Tonight I did some lifting and exercises but no squats. My legs don’t hurt but I thought I should take a break from them. I think one reason I squat so much lately, is to warm up. The cabin is drafty and when it gets below zero, it is damn cold in here.
I’ve wanted to get back to writing more on my blog but it’s hard. We bought my grandfather’s home, on the island I was born on, this summer. With all that was/is involved in that, my routine was disrupted. I have been through a number of changes in my life and came through okay, but this time I just feel so out of sorts. The saying about old dogs and new tricks may be correct in my case. I’ll keep trying.
This is from my sister’s blog. Yes, yet one more diet contest with the girls.
My sisters are great!
Ten, twelve, maybe twenty times a year, we start a diet contest. Out of the blue, an email arrives and it reads something like this:
No carbs for 48 hours – who’s in?
The emails fly back and forth.
“Do you mean no carbs or low carbs?”
“When do the 48 hours start – can it wait until after bowling?”
“Tammy, where are you? Are you in?”
At some point, four of the five of us sisters throw our diet hats into the ring. (The youngest of us has no need for our contests.) We start with a vengeance. Emails, myfitnesspal postings, texts and even an actual phone call or two pass back and forth and the contest takes life.
That no-carb contest – I made it one day, lost 2 pounds and had my girlfriend Christmas party the following night. I ate taco dip and chips…

Well, it was not any warmer today but the good news is, we got more snow. Love snow! My Michael decided to stop working and come with me. It took us a little over an hour to walk the 5K route we usually go. Once the snow gets a little deeper, we’ll get on the trails, but for now we stick to the campground roads.
I was pretty warm by the time we got back but I knew that was because my legs were numb. I waited for a while and then jumped in a hot shower but still had a chill. I grabbed my 30 lb kettlebell and did some squats. That did the trick, I was warm. I did 3 sets of 25 along with some lifting.
Tomorrow is our monthly meeting with a group of H.S. kids, counselors and a few community members. It’s a volunteer group and we’ve been doing it for years. It’s almost midnight and I am just finishing two batches of chocolate chip cookies. Our turn to make snacks. Bring on Friday!
Once again, I woke with good intentions. My plan was to move my computer to the other desk, do last night’s dishes, vacuum, scrub the toilet and then go out in it for an hour walk. The wind was howling and the mercury in the thermometer never reached above zero. Most of my chores were finished, just the dishes waited on the counter when the power went out. I checked the power company website and saw that the whole town was down. It started getting cold and squats kept me warmed up and energized but when the power came back on an hour later, I did not want to go out in it.
Tomorrow’s another day!
Another Janathon day in the books. My Michael and I went out for a 5K walk this afternoon. It was below zero with the wind chill making it cold, cold! We dressed right and the only thing cold on me, was my face. Tomorrow is supposed to be colder and windier, so a balaclava may be used, if I can find it. During the day I did 3 sets of 25 squats, push-ups and some upper body lifting.
I think I would write more if I didn’t wait until almost midnight. Maybe an earlier post tomorrow. My wonderful warm fleece sheets await me.
