30 Blog Challenge Day 2 – Current Relationship

For those of you who haven’t read about me, I got divorced last year after 35 yrs. of marriage.  Maybe someday I will blog on that.

I won’t go into the timeline but I am now with the best man I have ever known.  We graduated from the same high school in 1973.  We dated for a short time as freshmen. We started talking again on facebook a few years ago.  I hadn’t seen him in over 30 years.  I knew he was divorced and a college educated, very intelligent man.  I soon discovered he was also very wise.  We messaged a few times but no real long conversations at first, just generic stuff.  Fast forward…

We now live together in a small cabin in the woods on a little river.  It’s perfect, something I dreamed of for a long time.

It’s been an amazing and eye opening experience.  I have dealt with my woundedness and insecurities.  I have learned so much about myself and about people in general.  My relationships have taken a new direction, this one with my Michael and other relationships as well.  He has taught me so much about life by asking the right questions.  He pushes nothing on me.  He speaks truth to me, we have an honest relationship.  I learned all those little white lies are nothing but lies and lead to more lies.  I learned honestly is the way.  I speak it all the time.  I tell him my innermost thoughts, fears, feelings, dreams and fantasies.  I laugh everyday, a lot.  We have never had an argument.  We disagree but talk it out, with out anger.  I am not afraid of him.  I am not afraid with him.  I have never felt this safe in my life.

We both like dark meat.  We both cook. We both fish.  We both read.  We are so alike, sometimes it’s scary.  He taught me how to be independent, like myself, hunt, fly fish and play World of Warcraft(can you say adolescent boys).  I taught him there are women out there that trust you and respect you and won’t shame you.

I love him and I love us and we both love the Lord!  I can’t imagine ever being without him.

The One Time You Don’t Want Your Kids To Be Quiet -Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning!

Sunny Sleevez

In many child drownings, adults are nearby but have no idea the victim is dying. Here’s what to look for.

Children playing in the water make noise. When they get quiet, you get to them and find out why.

Drowning is not the violent, splashing call for help that most people expect. Many of us have learned what drowning looks like by watching television. If you spend time on or near the water (hint: that’s all of us) then you should make sure that you know what to look for whenever people enter the water. Usually a child will drown without making a sound. Drowning is almost always a deceptively quiet event. The waving, splashing, and yelling that dramatic conditioning (television) prepares us to look for is rarely seen in real life.

The Instinctive Drowning Response—so named by Francesco A. Pie, Ph.D., is what people do to avoid actual or…

Turtle Update!!

When I last reported any turtle activity it was last weekend and I had just discovered it was egg laying season.  I have updates and pictures to show what’s been going on around the lake and river.

The last pictures I posted were a couple turtles digging the holes and depositing eggs.  I went there the next day and discovered this.

I assumed a raccoon or skunk. Made me sad.

Juneathon Day 13

I had to take a break as I did something to my back and wanted it to feel a lot better before I started again. So, with saying that, we took a 2.5 mile walk yesterday morning, it was humid and we took some pictures of the wild roses along the road. I would love to go back in the fall and dig some up to plant here by the cabin. In the late afternoon we took our bikes out of storage and went for a great ride on the other side of the lake. It was up and down a lot of hills as we covered 7.6 miles in 49 min. Today I plan on getting back on the strength workout wagon, again. Hope to post that later as tomorrow we are gone to look at a foreclosure in Michaels home town, just as an investment, maybe rental property.

Juneathon Day 12

Yesterday was an easy walk thru the campground and that was about it for movement.  We went about 1.8 miles and out for 33 minutes.  On the way out  we saw a snapping turtle up by the campers on the road.  I was a bit worried about it getting run over but she was pretty big and someone would see her, I hoped. When she was still there wandering about on our way home, I didn’t know if I should do something or just “let nature take run it’s course”.  That’s what My Michael said to me.  So, I did something, I took her picture.

As I am taking her pic, one of the campers yelled for me to be careful that she didn’t bite me.  I just laughed at him and took a couple more.  He then asks if I saw the other snapper on the other side of the picnic table.  The table was a little closer to the river and about 15 feet away from some other campers.  I jumped on top of the table and apologized to the campers for interrupting  them and there she was.

But, it was a little box turtle not a snapper and she was obviously digging the hole to deposit her eggs.  I saw movement about 10 feet away and there she was, the snapper and she had her back end in the hole.

So, there you go, the reason for the turtle invasion.  I googled it and this is the time of the year that the elusive snapper turtles leave the water and travel to lay their eggs.  Very cool stuff.

Juneathon Day 11

I didn’t do much for exercise yesterday. Our walk was about 2 miles and it took us 42 minutes. It was also Day 7 of my squat challenge and I got in my 80 before bed.  Not sure if it has anything to do with my sore back today.  I’ve been doing squats long enough and I am pretty sure my form is fine.  My Michael and I went for a long walk which ended faster than we planned.  He is trying to break in a new pair of shoes and has a blister on the back of his foot.  The bandage slipped off and we had to get home.  It was all good!  As we were almost back to the junction I noticed a dragonfly doing a face plant on the road.  Not sure what happened here but pretty sure he was dead.

Juneathon Day 10

Yesterday was a great day!  Almost as good as today!!  Had to drive an hour to take a test to apply for a job at the local Post Office.  Took it, passed and now will just see what happens.  I haven’t worked for about 2 years and the money I got from the divorce is getting lower.  No worries yet but I don’t want to get in the position of worrying.

When I got home, we walked about an hour and covered 3.5 miles.  Great breeze and a bit cooler than the last couple days, but the sun was shining and it was gorgeous. Mosquitoes were few.  My Michael walked back home and I went for a short 1.2 mile run for another 15 minutes.  My feet felt good and I probably could’ve gone farther but I wanted to be home.  Last night I did Day 6 of my squat challenge and knocked out 75 of those bad boys.  I feel good today except for a little achilles tightness in my left foot.

Some interesting bugs out there.

Michael took this, but I had to get closer.

I am clueless as to what it is.  Anyone?  N.E. Wisconsin.
