Janathon Day 11 & 12

Yesterday I never went outside.  I did do some squats and lifting while watching my Packers beat the Cowboys.  With some great game food of bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers, My Michael and a win, it was a pretty good day.

Today we took our 5K walk in 14 F degree temps.  It was another good day.  Late again and I’m going to bed.

Janathon Day 9 & Day 10

It was after midnight last night, when I thought about blogging my Janathon Day 9, I went to bed instead.  Yesterday I didn’t go out and walk, but did do 5 sets of 25 squats, four of them with a 30 lb. kettlebell.  I also did push-ups and some lifting.

Today, Day 10, we got out there in a balmy 14 degrees F and it felt great.  We walked our 5K route in the campground in an hour.  Tonight I did some lifting and exercises but no squats.  My legs don’t hurt but I thought I should take a break from them.  I think one reason I squat so much lately, is to warm up.  The cabin is drafty and when it gets below zero, it is damn cold in here.

I’ve wanted to get back to writing more on my blog but it’s hard.  We bought my grandfather’s home, on the island I was born on, this summer.  With all that was/is involved in that, my routine was disrupted.  I have been through a number of changes in my life and came through okay, but this time I just feel so out of sorts.  The saying about old dogs and new tricks may be correct in my case.  I’ll keep trying.

Janathon Day 8

DebMikewalk

Well, it was not any warmer today but the good news is, we got more snow.  Love snow!  My Michael decided to stop working and come with me.  It took us a little over an hour to walk the 5K route we usually go.  Once the snow gets a little deeper, we’ll get on the trails, but for now we stick to the campground roads.

I was pretty warm by the time we got back but I knew that was because my legs were numb.  I waited for a while and then jumped in a hot shower but still had a chill.  I grabbed my 30 lb kettlebell and did some squats.  That did the trick, I was warm.  I did 3 sets of 25 along with some lifting.

Tomorrow is our monthly meeting with a group of H.S. kids, counselors and a few community members.  It’s a volunteer group and we’ve been doing it for years.  It’s almost midnight and I am just finishing two batches of chocolate chip cookies.  Our turn to make snacks.  Bring on Friday!

Janathon Day 6

Another Janathon day in the books.  My Michael and I went out for a 5K walk this afternoon.  It was below zero with the wind chill making it cold, cold!  We dressed right and the only thing cold on me, was my face.  Tomorrow is supposed to be colder and windier, so a balaclava may be used, if I can find it.  During the day I did 3 sets of 25 squats, push-ups and some upper body lifting.

I think I would write more if I didn’t wait until almost midnight.  Maybe an earlier post tomorrow.  My wonderful warm fleece sheets await me.

Janathon Day 4

selfiecold

Cold 5K walk today at 7F and a feels like temp of -3F.  I took out my winter coat, “Big Orange” and stayed toasty warm except for my cheeks.  Janathon Day 4 finished with squats and push-ups.  Tomorrow is my Dr. appointment at the V.A. but will get out there bright and early.  Temps tomorrow will not get above 0 until later in the day.  It’s all about the clothes!

Janathon Day 3

Started the morning with an hour long walk in the snow.  We got another 3-4 inches during the night and it was still coming down as I trudged the 5K along the campground roads.  After that was a quick shower and drive to Green Bay for shopping and dinner with a friend.  He treated as it is My Michaels 60th birthday on Monday.  I had salmon and shrimp in a jalapeno sauce and have yet to feel any ill effects from it.

The drive home was a little scary as it was drizzly and just below freezing.  We saw about 5 cars off in the ditches and the police were everywhere.  It was a long hour drive home and I tried really hard to keep my mouth shut regarding the speed and my fears.  Home now!  I’m tired.  Janathon Day 3 done!  Good night!

Janathon Day 2

Today’s weather was about the same as yesterdays with the temperature at 16 F and cloudy.  We went out and walked for an hour, covering about 5K of snowy/icy roads.  It felt great.  I truly love winter walking.  Tonight I also did my squats and push-ups.  That’s enough for the second day of Janathon.

As far as my chest pains on Wednesday, I have googled everything and am self-diagnosing myself with a hiatal hernia.  I will tell my Dr. on Monday.  They usually laugh at me and then eventually agree.  I think I missed my calling.

I’m Back

PerspectiveCLC

It’s been six months since I posted anything and I guess Janathon is a good way to come back.

Life’s been a little crazy lately, including an ambulance ride and three hours in the ER.  That was yesterday morning, the last day of 2014.  I woke up at 5:00 a.m. with chest pains that only got worse.  Long story short, they found nothing wrong and advised me to take it easy and call my primary doctor.  At this point, I’m going to blame the can of sardines I ate the day before and call my doctor.

For my first day of this years Janathon, I went out in a brisk 20 degree F and walked for 80 minutes in the snow.  I’ve also done squats and push-ups.

I will take it easy but there’s still much work to be done.  I’ve gained 20 lbs since moving back to Wisconsin in 2011 and it needs to go.

Monday Morning Spring Snow

Last week we had temperatures around 50 – 60 degrees F. Snow was pretty much gone. But today we got one more taste of the beautiful winters here in Wisconsin.
