Janathon Day 11 & 12

Yesterday I never went outside.  I did do some squats and lifting while watching my Packers beat the Cowboys.  With some great game food of bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers, My Michael and a win, it was a pretty good day.

Today we took our 5K walk in 14 F degree temps.  It was another good day.  Late again and I’m going to bed.

Janathon Day 9 & Day 10

It was after midnight last night, when I thought about blogging my Janathon Day 9, I went to bed instead.  Yesterday I didn’t go out and walk, but did do 5 sets of 25 squats, four of them with a 30 lb. kettlebell.  I also did push-ups and some lifting.

Today, Day 10, we got out there in a balmy 14 degrees F and it felt great.  We walked our 5K route in the campground in an hour.  Tonight I did some lifting and exercises but no squats.  My legs don’t hurt but I thought I should take a break from them.  I think one reason I squat so much lately, is to warm up.  The cabin is drafty and when it gets below zero, it is damn cold in here.

I’ve wanted to get back to writing more on my blog but it’s hard.  We bought my grandfather’s home, on the island I was born on, this summer.  With all that was/is involved in that, my routine was disrupted.  I have been through a number of changes in my life and came through okay, but this time I just feel so out of sorts.  The saying about old dogs and new tricks may be correct in my case.  I’ll keep trying.

Janathon Day 8

DebMikewalk

Well, it was not any warmer today but the good news is, we got more snow.  Love snow!  My Michael decided to stop working and come with me.  It took us a little over an hour to walk the 5K route we usually go.  Once the snow gets a little deeper, we’ll get on the trails, but for now we stick to the campground roads.

I was pretty warm by the time we got back but I knew that was because my legs were numb.  I waited for a while and then jumped in a hot shower but still had a chill.  I grabbed my 30 lb kettlebell and did some squats.  That did the trick, I was warm.  I did 3 sets of 25 along with some lifting.

Tomorrow is our monthly meeting with a group of H.S. kids, counselors and a few community members.  It’s a volunteer group and we’ve been doing it for years.  It’s almost midnight and I am just finishing two batches of chocolate chip cookies.  Our turn to make snacks.  Bring on Friday!

Janathon Day 7

Once again, I woke with good intentions.  My plan was to move my computer to the other desk, do last night’s dishes, vacuum, scrub the toilet and then go out in it for an hour walk.  The wind was howling and the mercury in the thermometer never reached above zero.  Most of my chores were finished, just the dishes waited on the counter when the power went out.  I checked the power company website and saw that the whole town was down.  It started getting cold and squats kept me warmed up and energized but when the power came back on an hour later, I did not want to go out in it.

Tomorrow’s another day!

Janathon Day 6

Another Janathon day in the books.  My Michael and I went out for a 5K walk this afternoon.  It was below zero with the wind chill making it cold, cold!  We dressed right and the only thing cold on me, was my face.  Tomorrow is supposed to be colder and windier, so a balaclava may be used, if I can find it.  During the day I did 3 sets of 25 squats, push-ups and some upper body lifting.

I think I would write more if I didn’t wait until almost midnight.  Maybe an earlier post tomorrow.  My wonderful warm fleece sheets await me.

Janathon Day 5

Today found the temperature at 15 below zero Fahrenheit.  I still had every intention of going out and walking my 5K, but it never happened.  I did manage to get in 75 squats and pushups before driving an hour to my doctor appointment.

I told her I thought it was a hiatal hernia but she said she wanted to rule out the lethal before she checked for anything else.  So, she emailed the VA in Green Bay to have them call me for an appointment for the cardiologist.  Then off to the lab for another EKG plus more labs and a chest x-ray.  I am now officially tired of doctors, nurses, lab techs, hospitals and such.  I have a low tolerance.

I’m Back

PerspectiveCLC

It’s been six months since I posted anything and I guess Janathon is a good way to come back.

Life’s been a little crazy lately, including an ambulance ride and three hours in the ER.  That was yesterday morning, the last day of 2014.  I woke up at 5:00 a.m. with chest pains that only got worse.  Long story short, they found nothing wrong and advised me to take it easy and call my primary doctor.  At this point, I’m going to blame the can of sardines I ate the day before and call my doctor.

For my first day of this years Janathon, I went out in a brisk 20 degree F and walked for 80 minutes in the snow.  I’ve also done squats and push-ups.

I will take it easy but there’s still much work to be done.  I’ve gained 20 lbs since moving back to Wisconsin in 2011 and it needs to go.

Juneathon Day 10

Turtle1CLC

On my bike ride this afternoon, I saw my second box turtle in three days.  The first one I stopped by and took off the road and this girl was already on the side.  Can’t wait to see the big snapping turtles come out of the river.  It will soon be turtle egg laying season in N.E. Wisconsin.

I biked for 35 minutes and finished my challenges for the day, with a rest day for burpees.

Juneathon Day 9

It’s been a beautiful cool day and we went out early on our bikes.  We did our 6 mile trek down the 3 campground roads.  Today it took us 35 minutes.  It felt great and I get faster every time.  I think the squats have something to do with it.  Lots of hills out there.

The 3 challenges today had me doing: 38 tri dips, 26 push ups, 5 X 5 curls, 35 burpees and 100 squats.
